This is a part of a series of write-ups about the personal donations made by Senator Pia S. Cayetano. We are sharing these articles with the hope to inspire the Bayanihan spirit in us to lend help to others in these trying times.
With the highest number of confirmed cases in the Visayas, Cebu is faced with the complex task of managing the COVID-19 outbreak in the province.
As Cebu struggled with rising cases, their frontline health workers needed additional medical supplies. Likewise, barangay health centers have to be supported to sustain their services in the communities.
After coordinating with local government leaders and friends in Cebu, I was able to gather medical supplies urgently needed in their province. These supplies included medicines, disinfecting agents, and protective equipment for health centers and hospitals.
I am pleased to report that the following supplies were delivered to Cebu last March 29:
10 gallons of alcohol, 6 bottles of Betadine, and boxes of over-the-counter medicines to Cebu City, care of Councilor Philip Zafra;
20 gallons of alcohol, 6 bottles of betadine, and boxes of over-the-counter medicines to Mandaue City, under the care of Representative Lolypop Ouano-Dizon;
20 gallons of alcohol, 6 bottles of betadine, and boxes of over-the-counter medicines to Representative Duke and Mayor Christina Frasco;
20 gallons of alcohol, 6 bottles of betadine, and boxes of over-the-counter medicines to Representative Pablo John Garcia; and
20 gallons of alcohol, care of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
Medical supplies were also delivered directly to the following hospitals:
20 pieces of surgical caps to Everseley Child Sanitarium and General Hospital in Mandaue City;
20 pieces of surgical caps to Mandaue City Hospital;
20 pieces of surgical caps and 10 gallons of alcohol to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center;
20 pieces of surgical caps to Balamban District Hospital in Balamban, Cebu; and
20 pieces of surgical caps to Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital in Lapu-Lapu City.
Thanks to friends and colleagues who helped bridge the medical supply deliveries to reach several communities in Cebu. This shows that as COVID-19 seems boundless, so is our spirit of bayanihan in times of need.
